Missing file header?

The article mentions a "word" at the start of the file to check the signature, but it doesn't explain whether this is part of the header or whether it's looking in the filename. Is there a header on this file that needs to be added to the article? Also since the term "word" is ambiguous (under DOS it can mean 16 or 32 bits, on other platforms it can mean 16, 32 or 64, or 128 bits, and it could be big or little endian) it would be better to be specific, e.g. UINT16LE for a 16-bit Intel-order unsigned value.
