GFX1.GFX holds the graphics of the Codemasters "Absolutely Brilliant!" logo intro that plays when Micro Machines starts. It is used by SM.EXE, not by the game itself. The file is 54273 bytes long and is not compressed.

File format

The file has no directory. It starts with a 4-byte header (00 01 6B EC) that is never read; its meaning is unknown. The images follow at fixed offsets, each stored row by row with one byte per pixel. Images are drawn opaque.

Offset Size Content
0x0004 + n × 0x400, n = 0-28 32×32 Letter frames of "Codemasters", 3 or 4 zoom frames per letter. Frames 0 and 1 are thin slivers shared by several letters.
0x7800, 0x8400, 0x9000, 0x9C00 64×48 Frames of the "TM" swoosh
0xA804 176×36 Banner "Absolutely" (the last row is not drawn)
0xC174 176×26 Banner "Brilliant!"
0xD354 - Zeros up to the end of the file, followed by a single 0x1A byte

Palette and animation

The palette is not in the file. It is stored in SM.EXE at file offset 0x56C as a 256-colour 6-bit VGA Palette.

The animation is also defined in SM.EXE: a table of 48 records of 14 bytes at file offset 0x21E, one record drawn per frame:

Data type Name Description
UINT16LE x X position
UINT16LE xOffset Added to x
UINT16LE sprite Sprite number, not used
UINT16LE y Y position
UINT16LE offset Offset of the image in GFX1.GFX
UINT16LE width Image width
UINT16LE height Image height

After the letters, the two banners slide in from the left and right, and a shine moves diagonally over the logo. The intro ends 250 frames after the shine, or when a mouse button is pressed.

The intro also wants to load an 11×13 pixel proportional font from ANTIFONT.BIN to write "(c) Codemasters 1994." under the logo. The shipped file is empty, so nothing is shown.
